The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly dismissed allegations made by former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, who claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has been overtaken by an influential cabal.

Dalung, speaking in an interview with The PUNCH, alleged that Tinubu never held full control of his government from the onset. According to him, the presidency had already been compromised even before Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29, 2023.

"From the time I met Tinubu as an aspirant to the moment he was elected, I knew we would end up exactly where we are today," Dalung said. He further recounted a meeting with Yoruba elders just before the inauguration, where he reportedly warned that a “sophisticated cabal” had hijacked the incoming administration.

Responding to the allegations, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, dismissed Dalung’s remarks as unfounded and questioned his capacity to contribute meaningfully to political discourse.

“Who is Dalung?” Basiru asked. “What was his track record as a minister? He clearly lacks the intellectual depth to speak authoritatively on issues of governance.”

Basiru insisted that President Tinubu remains firmly in charge of his administration and described Dalung’s comments as a distraction from the real issues.

“This is nothing more than political noise from someone whose relevance has faded,” he added.

Dalung, who served under the Buhari administration, has in recent years been vocal in his criticism of the APC leadership, despite being a former insider.

As the political landscape heats up ahead of upcoming state elections, observers say such tensions within and around the ruling party may reflect deeper divisions yet to surface publicly.
