Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, reignited an old political scandal on social media this week while responding to comments made by Hon. Timothy Owoeye, the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
Owoeye, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had aimed verbal jabs at the Adeleke political dynasty during a recent press briefing in Osogbo, declaring that the “Adeleke family is not welcome in the APC” and that “there is no space for PDP and Adeleke in APC.”
His comments were a reaction to recent speculation about a possible political alliance between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ademola Adeleke—Davido’s uncle—after the governor visited the president alongside Davido and their father, Dr. Deji Adeleke.
But Davido, never one to back down from online confrontations, fired off a quick and piercing response on X (formerly Twitter). Quoting the story, he wrote:
“No be this guy naked for bush?”
“No be this guy naked for bush?”
The comment alluded to a controversial 2018 viral video, in which a man strongly resembling Hon. Owoeye was allegedly caught performing ritual acts in the bush at night. Though the individual in the video was never officially confirmed to be Owoeye, the resemblance and the scandal it stirred at the time were hard to ignore.
Davido’s clapback quickly gained traction, with fans and political observers weighing in on the clash between entertainment royalty and the Osun political establishment.
While Hon. Owoeye has yet to respond publicly to the singer’s jab, the online heat has reignited interest in both the past controversy and the ongoing political maneuvering in Osun State.
As political tensions rise and alliances shift ahead of the next election cycle, it seems neither Davido nor his family will be taking public criticism lightly—especially not from their longtime political rivals.
