France sealed third place in the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League with a clinical 2-0 win over hosts Germany at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart. Despite Germany enjoying the lion’s share of possession and creating numerous chances, Les Bleus showed ruthless efficiency, with Kylian Mbappé once again proving to be the difference maker.

The Real Madrid star gave France the lead on the stroke of halftime with a sublime right-footed curler — marking his 50th international goal for the national team. Germany had earlier threatened but were repeatedly denied by the outstanding Mike Maignan and the crossbar.

Germany thought they had equalized early in the second half, only for VAR to rule out the goal for a foul in the build-up — a decision met with frustration from the home crowd. France nearly doubled their lead moments later through Cherki and Thuram, but it was goalkeeper Ter Stegen who kept Germany in it with a string of vital top saves, including one to deny Mbappe's volley .

However, in the 83rd minute, a costly defensive error by Germany handed France a golden chance. Mbappé, unselfish and composed, laid it off for Michael Olise to tap into an empty net, sealing the result.

France’s defensive discipline and attacking precision earned them a deserved third-place finish, while Germany will rue their missed opportunities and disallowed goal.

Final Score: Germany 0-2 France (Mbappé 45’, Olise 83’)
