Istanbul/Moscow - Iran has strongly condemned coordinated airstrikes by the United States and Israel on its nuclear facilities, branding the attacks as a “grave crime” and a serious threat to global peace. The country’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, warned on Sunday that both nations had “crossed a very big red line.”
Speaking on the sidelines of an emergency summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Araghchi confirmed that he would travel to Moscow for urgent consultations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The United States and the Zionist regime have launched an unprecedented military escalation by directly targeting our nuclear infrastructure,” Araghchi said. “This is not just an attack on Iran—it is an assault on international peace and law.”
The remarks came just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that American fighter jets had struck three Iranian nuclear sites as part of a joint operation with Israel. The bombing follows over a week of Israeli air raids on suspected nuclear-related facilities, including the deeply fortified uranium enrichment site at Fordo.
“The most dangerous one happened only last night,” said Araghchi. “I still lack full details on the scale of the destruction, but what matters now is that this action was an unforgivable violation of international norms.”
He added: “Iran will exercise its right to self-defense using all necessary means. The world must recognize that this was military aggression, not diplomacy.”
Despite Trump’s call for Iran to “now agree to end this war,” Araghchi dismissed any notion of returning to the negotiating table under current conditions.
“The U.S. speaks of peace after launching missiles? This is the height of hypocrisy,” he said. “We were in the middle of diplomatic efforts when Washington chose bombs over dialogue and backed Israel’s genocidal war machine. What kind of diplomacy is that?”
Turkey, the host of the OIC summit, echoed Iran’s concerns, warning of a potential global crisis. “These developments could spiral into a broader conflict with catastrophic consequences,” Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Araghchi is scheduled to meet President Putin in Moscow on Monday morning as Tehran seeks support from key allies. The diplomatic fallout continues to unfold rapidly, with regional powers watching closely as the standoff between Iran, the United States, and Israel intensifies.
