Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne has completed a high-profile move to Serie A champions Napoli, ending a legendary chapter at Manchester City and marking a new beginning in southern Italy.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed the signing on Thursday, sharing a photo with the 33-year-old midfielder and writing, “Welcome Kevin!” on social media.

De Bruyne joins as a free agent, signing a two-year deal with an optional third year, in a move that strengthens Napoli’s midfield as they prepare for a demanding season that includes defending the Scudetto and competing in the newly expanded UEFA Champions League.

A Decade of Glory in Manchester

De Bruyne departs Manchester after 10 trophy-laden years, where under Pep Guardiola, he helped build one of the most dominant sides in English football history. His honours include:

  • 6 Premier League titles

  • 1 UEFA Champions League title (2023)

  • Multiple domestic cups and personal accolades

Despite his influence, De Bruyne’s recent years have been marked by injury setbacks, especially recurring hamstring issues that saw him miss large parts of the last two seasons.

Napoli Rebuilds with Experience

Now under the leadership of Antonio Conte, Napoli is adding depth and experience to a squad that edged Inter Milan to clinch the Serie A title on the final day of the season.

De Bruyne will reunite with Belgium teammate Romelu Lukaku, and play alongside Scott McTominay, another summer addition with Premier League pedigree.

Last season, Napoli had the advantage of no European commitments, unlike Inter Milan who reached the Champions League final but suffered a heavy 5–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. That dynamic will shift this year as Napoli enters the European spotlight once more.
