Afrobeats hitmaker Kizz Daniel is not just making music—he’s rewriting how resilience sounds in the studio.

In a heartfelt interview on Apple Music’s Africa Now Radio, the “Buga” crooner opened up about the inspiration behind his latest EP, ‘Unkle K (Lemon Chase)’, and the unexpected loss that birthed it.

According to the award-winning singer, the project emerged after a major technical disaster wiped out over 600 songs, including the full tracklist for what was meant to be the Unkle K album.

“My workstation crashed and we lost a lot of songs,” Kizz Daniel revealed. “I was supposed to go on tour with the album already announced, so I went back to the studio and created new music that sonically mirrored what we had before.”

The result was a seven-track EP titled ‘Unkle K (Lemon Chase)’—a name inspired by making the best of a bitter situation.

“When life throws you lemons, you make lemonade out of it—and that’s exactly what we did,” he said, highlighting the months he spent locked in the studio rebuilding from scratch.

The EP features two of the most talked-about collaborators in Nigerian music today—OdumoduBlvck and Bella Shmurda, both featured on the emotionally charged track ‘Al-Jannah’, a spiritual tribute to loved ones lost.

“Al-Jannah means ‘paradise.’ I wanted to write a tribute song,” Kizz Daniel explained. “We’ve lost so many people—our son in 2021, my father in 2015, my wife’s mum in 2024, my stepmother. It’s not just one person, it’s a collective memory of love and loss.”

But beyond the sorrow and sonic healing, the project also spotlighted a new flame in Nigeria’s music scene—Fola, the fast-rising star whose presence on the EP didn’t go unnoticed.

Kizz Daniel didn't mince words about the young talent:

“He’s amazing. I used to call him ‘The Future.’ Nigerian fans call him ‘Striker – number 9.’ He’s an incredible artist.”

With a co-sign this bold from a veteran like Kizz, Fola's rise may just be unstoppable.

Since its release, Unkle K (Lemon Chase) has been praised by fans and critics alike for its deep emotion, originality, and loyalty to Afrobeats’ roots, standing as a reminder that not every success story is built on perfection—some rise from ashes.

And in Kizz Daniel’s case, those ashes have turned to gold.
