French football star Kylian Mbappé has been released from hospital following treatment for a sudden bout of gastroenteritis, Spanish giants Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday.
The 26-year-old forward, who recently joined Real Madrid in a high-profile move, was hospitalized earlier in the day after suffering from what the club described as “an acute case of gastroenteritis.” The condition, which affects the intestines, often results in symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever.
After undergoing medical tests and beginning treatment, Mbappé was cleared to leave the hospital and has since returned to the team’s training base in Palm Beach, Florida. According to the club’s official statement, the French captain will “continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to team activity.”
Mbappé missed Real Madrid’s opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup on Tuesday, where the Spanish side drew 1-1 with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal in Miami. His availability remains uncertain for their next match against Mexico’s Pachuca on Sunday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Real Madrid’s final group stage clash is scheduled for June 26 against Austria’s Salzburg in Philadelphia.
The Club World Cup marks the start of a new era at Real Madrid under head coach Xabi Alonso, who replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the end of last season.
Mbappé’s debut campaign with Los Blancos has already been headline-worthy. The prolific striker scored 43 goals in 56 appearances, helping Madrid lift both the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup. He also claimed the European Golden Boot as the continent’s top scorer. However, his side narrowly missed out on the La Liga title and were knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal in the quarterfinals.
Real Madrid will be hoping for a swift recovery as they look to regain form in the global tournament and build momentum under their new manager.
