Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to deliver 2.5 million votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, describing the commitment as a gesture of appreciation for what he termed “unprecedented development” in the state under Tinubu’s administration.
The governor made this bold promise on Sunday at Okaijesan Town Hall in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, during a political rally welcoming key defectors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
‘Edo is APC — and APC is Edo’
Speaking to party faithful, Okpebholo declared the political dominance of the APC in the region, particularly in his home constituency, Esan Central.
“Today marks the political end of the PDP in this local government,” the governor said, adding that the defection wave was driven not by pressure but by what he called the “visible and tangible achievements” of his administration.
The governor described the return of prominent political figures to the APC as a validation of his leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda spearheaded by President Tinubu.
Major Political Comebacks Boost APC Ranks
Among those returning to the APC fold is former Edo State APC Chairman Anselm Ojezua, a move Okpebholo described as “significant for party consolidation.”
Others who officially decamped included:
- Current and former members of the Edo State House of Assembly
- Ex-local government chairmen
- Councillors and senior PDP leaders
Governor Okpebholo assured new members of a “truly inclusive APC”, reiterating that the party remains open to all who believe in the state’s collective progress.
“Edo’s development is our shared responsibility. The APC welcomes everyone who is committed to that goal,” he said.
Tinubu to Receive Massive Backing in 2027
In what became the most talked-about moment of the event, Okpebholo pledged that Edo State would reward President Tinubu’s support with 2.5 million votes in the 2027 presidential polls.
“The people have spoken through their actions. In 2027, Edo will stand firmly behind President Tinubu. Edo is APC, and APC is the engine of our development under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
Okpebholo promised not to betray the confidence of Edo people and vowed to continue delivering on infrastructure, education, and job creation across the state.
“I will not fail you. My administration will continue to work with diligence, transparency, and purpose,” he assured.
‘A Movement of Peace and Purpose’
Also speaking at the event, Major General Cecil Esekhaigbe (retd.), APC leader in the Edo Central Senatorial District, told decampees that the APC provides a level playing field and does not discriminate.
“Join this movement of peace and purpose. Together, we will move Edo forward,” Esekhaigbe urged.
The event drew a crowd of high-profile attendees, including:
- Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor
- Chief of Staff, Gani Audu
- Acting Deputy State APC Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh
- Various party leaders and community stakeholders
As Edo’s political landscape continues to shift, Governor Okpebholo appears intent on consolidating power ahead of 2027 — with President Tinubu set to be a major beneficiary of his growing political capital.
