Afrobeat sensation Rema has revealed that the very criticisms once thrown at him have now become the fuel behind his global success.
In a recent sit-down interview shared online, the Nigerian superstar opened up about how constant trolling and skepticism about his sound didn’t break him — instead, it built him.
“People used to troll me. They laughed at my sound, criticised my style… but today, I’m benefiting from all of it,” Rema declared with pride.
Reflecting on his rise to fame, the Calm Down hitmaker said he never allowed negativity to distract him from his vision. Despite the early backlash over his genre-blending sound, Rema said quitting was never an option.
“Imagine if I had stopped because of what people said. Imagine if I changed my sound to fit in,” he said. “But four years later, it paid off — and it’s still paying off. There’s more coming.”
The Mavin Records star also highlighted a major career milestone, stating, “I was the first Afrobeat act to tour India. Coming from Africa, that’s a huge deal. It shows how far we've come.”
Rema’s story continues to inspire young African creatives who are often told to conform. Instead, the singer is urging them to stay true to their sound — because sometimes, the noise of trolls is just the sound of greatness in the making.
