Milan, Italy - Imone Inzaghi has officially ended his four-year spell with Inter Milan, marking the close of a tumultuous chapter for the Italian giants — and possibly opening the door to Saudi Arabia’s ever-expanding football empire.

The announcement came just days after Inter suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final — the heaviest loss ever recorded in a European final.

“The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a run of four years during which I gave everything,” Inzaghi wrote in an open letter shared on the club’s website Tuesday morning.

While the heartbreak in Europe may have sealed his exit, Inzaghi’s next destination is already the subject of intense speculation. Sources close to the situation say Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al-Hilal is prepared to offer the Italian tactician a jaw-dropping €20 million-per-year contract to take over their squad.

A Rollercoaster Reign at San Siro

Inzaghi, 48, leaves behind a mixed legacy. He led Inter Milan to the Serie A title in 2024, but narrowly missed out on a continental crown twice — first in 2023 against Manchester City, and now against PSG.

His Nerazzurri side came painfully close to a historic treble this season but faltered in the final stretch — losing to city rivals AC Milan in the Italian Cup semifinals and again in the Supercoppa Italiana, also in Saudi Arabia.

Despite finishing just one point behind Napoli in the Serie A race last month, Inter ends the season without a trophy — a reality that stings in a city that demands silverware.

Now the focus shifts to the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, where Inter opens against Mexico’s Monterrey on June 17. Curiously, that’s just a day before Al-Hilal takes on Real Madrid — possibly with Inzaghi on the opposite bench.

Who Takes Over at Inter?

With Inzaghi gone, the question is: who will lead Inter into the Club World Cup spotlight?

Rumours are swirling that Cesc Fàbregas, the former Arsenal and Barcelona star who recently guided Como to a respectable mid-table Serie A finish, is in line to take the reins.

Inter now joins a growing list of top Serie A clubs undergoing major managerial overhauls. AC Milan, AS Roma, and Atalanta have all announced coaching changes in recent weeks as Italian football braces for a summer of reinvention.

As the Saudi Pro League continues to flex its financial muscle, Inzaghi’s departure underscores a growing trend — where passion for football meets the pull of petro-dollars.

Whether it’s glory, gold, or both, one thing is clear: the beautiful game is shifting, and no dugout is safe.
