Spotify Premium Users Can Now Request Songs by Voice

Global streaming giant Spotify has raised the bar once again, giving Premium subscribers across more than 60 countries a fresh way to command their musical journeys with the power of their own voices.

In response to user demands for more interaction, Spotify has upgraded its AI-powered DJ to accept real-time music requests in English, allowing listeners to steer their playlists and explore new sounds hands-free. Whether craving a certain artist, genre, or mood, fans can now tell the DJ exactly what they want, creating a truly personalised sonic experience.

To dive in, users simply head to the search tab, type ‘DJ’, and press play. The DJ will then launch a curated blend of songs with tailored commentary. When you’re ready to shake things up, press and hold the DJ button at the bottom right corner of your screen until you hear a beep, signalling it’s ready to listen. From there, just speak your request — perhaps “give me more pop” or “surprise me with indie hits” — and the DJ will instantly adjust the vibe.

If you’d rather leave it to chance, a single tap on the DJ button skips to the next segment of curated selections. Spotify also suggests playful voice prompts like “Play me electronic beats for a midday run”, “Surprise me with indie tracks I’ve never heard before”, or even “Play modern country songs for my cowboy era”.

Blending artificial intelligence with the insight of Spotify’s global editorial team, the DJ goes far beyond simply playing music. It acts as a personal guide to help fans discover new favourites, revisit old classics, and deepen their love for music — now with their own voice firmly in the driver’s seat.
