“I’m a Prophet, My Films Heal People” — Toyin Abraham Declares as ‘Iyalode’ Hits N100M Mark

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has boldly declared that her work goes beyond entertainment—she sees herself as a prophet whose films serve as vessels of healing and transformation.

Abraham made the statement via her Instagram page after receiving a touching message from a therapist who revealed she had been using Toyin’s latest film Iyalode as a form of therapy for an elderly client. According to the therapist, watching Iyalode with her patient brought emotional relief and upliftment—an experience she credited to the movie’s deep message.

Sharing a screenshot of the exchange, Toyin captioned it with a strong personal declaration:

“I just don’t shoot movies, I’m a Prophet and I speak and heal people through my Movies. IYALODE is still showing in cinemas in Nigeria, please find time to watch and be blessed.”

The spiritual undertone of Abraham’s work has sparked conversations online, with many fans applauding her for boldly aligning her art with divine purpose.

Released on June 6, Iyalode has stormed the Nigerian box office, raking in over ₦100 million within just four days of release—a feat that reaffirms Abraham’s influence in the industry.

Co-produced by Abraham and her husband, Kolawole Ajeyemi, and directed by veteran Adebayo Tijani, the film boasts a star-studded cast including Muyiwa Ademola, Gabriel Afolayan, Ibrahim Chatta, Bukky Wright, Kehinde Bankole, and Aisha Lawal.

Set in the ancient village of Kulende, Iyalode is a historical drama centred on the journey of Asabi Adikaka, a warrior seeking justice and redemption amid betrayal and legacy burdens. It delves into themes of power, resistance, and the cost of leadership, painting the portrait of a woman defying societal norms to reclaim her destiny.

The success of Iyalode signals Nollywood’s continued evolution toward powerful storytelling centred on complex female leads and rooted in Nigeria’s rich cultural past.
