Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, opened up about his late mother and the emotional journey of fatherhood during his sold-out concert in Los Angeles.

In a heartfelt moment on stage, the Grammy-winning artist revealed that his newborn daughter bears an uncanny resemblance to his late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.

“God gave me a daughter who looks exactly like my mom to come fill my heart with a whole lot of love,” Wizkid told the cheering crowd, visibly moved as he spoke.

The emotional revelation comes less than a year after Wizkid paid tribute to his mother by naming his sixth studio album after her in 2024. The album, Morayo, was received as a deeply personal project, marking a shift in tone and storytelling for the artist.

Fans at the Los Angeles concert were not only treated to live performances of Wizkid’s classic hits, but also witnessed a rare moment of vulnerability from the usually private star, who has continued to connect with his audience on deeper levels since his mother’s passing.

The Nigerian icon’s touching words add another layer to his legacy—not just as a global music powerhouse, but as a son, a father, and a man healing through love and music.
