Popular Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has penned a heartfelt open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, joining the rising tide of voices demanding urgent intervention over the deepening security crisis and soaring cost of living in Nigeria.
His message follows the tragic attack on Yelewata, a quiet community in Benue State, where over 250 villagers were slaughtered in a late-night raid by suspected armed herdsmen. The assault, described by eyewitnesses as "hell unleashed at midnight," left homes razed, farmlands destroyed, and dozens of families wiped out.
Taking to Instagram on June 16, Edochie directly addressed the President, appealing for immediate action to restore peace and hope across the country.
“His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, @officialasiwajubat, Nigerians do not hate you. They hate the situation they find themselves in — the hardship and insecurity,” he wrote.
While acknowledging strides made by Tinubu’s administration in infrastructure and some economic reforms, Edochie emphasized that these gains are being overshadowed by the daily fear and desperation that Nigerians face due to unchecked violence and skyrocketing living expenses.
“You have done well in infrastructure and laid down good policies,” he continued. “But if you don’t address the worsening insecurity and cost of living, all your efforts will mean little to the masses. Tackle these issues, and you’ll write your name in gold in the hearts of Nigerians.”
Edochie’s open letter lands amid nationwide mourning, with the Benue killings sparking outrage, vigils, and protests across multiple states. Social media platforms have also seen the #BenueMassacre trend for days, with citizens calling for justice and accountability.
The massacre, one of the deadliest in recent Nigerian history, has prompted growing criticism of the federal government's silence and delayed response. Survivors and community leaders have accused authorities of negligence and abandonment.
Reacting to the backlash, President Tinubu is now expected to visit Benue State on Wednesday, according to official sources. The visit will mark his first public engagement directly tied to the incident, after days of mounting pressure.
For Yul Edochie, the letter is more than a celebrity’s statement — it's a citizen’s cry.
The actor, known for his activism and outspokenness on national issues, used his platform to urge leadership that prioritizes safety and dignity for all Nigerians.
“We are not asking for too much,” he concluded. “Just give the people peace and a chance to live.”
As the nation continues to mourn, Edochie's words reflect the urgency felt by millions — a desperate plea for change before more lives are lost.
